Sylacauga Handicapped, Inc. was one of the first handicapped equipment dealers in the state of Alabama. Over the years since we opened our doors, the term handicapped equipment and handicap mobility has come to mean many more things and comprise a larger range and variety of products to assist the handicapped person. Much of this has been driven by handicapped people, such as our founder, who saw a need that was not being met, so he started this company to help himself and others.
The world of handicap mobility has expanded to mean so many things today. It ranges from scooters and wheelchairs to handicap vans with wheelchair ramps or wheelchair lifts. One category of equipment allows the simple transport and mobility of mildly disabled people (scooters and companion seats). Another allows wheelchair bound people to be transported in various seating arrangements including the drivers seat. This allows them to drive through the use of adaptive equipment. And now even the world of wheelchair lifts is subdivided into side wheelchair lifts, rear wheelchair lifts, under vehicle lifts, floor lifts, door lifts and outside lifts (for scooter storage). We also have wheelchair ramps in vehicles that range from a manual wheelchair ramp, to a totally automatic wheelchair ramp. And these also come in a variety of models that either slide out from under the handicap van, or from the inside of the handicap van from under the floor, or even a fold in style.
